May, 2017 : Function to export recipient database to CSV added

As requested by many users, a new function has been added to export all entries from the recipient database.
Please note that the format of the export CSV file is not compatible with format of the CSV file to import recipients. Import file is a subset of the export file.
We are planning to make both format compatible in a very near future (few weeks).

June 19th, 2016 : Father's day - long SMS messages are supported!

Until June 19th, 2016, only standard, up to 160 characters SMS were supported.
For messages with non-ascii characters it was actually 80.
From now on, messages up to 512 characters (ascii) are supported - if they are supported by your carrier (most likely they are).
Messages over 160 characters are split into multiple segments, send separately to your phone, and then 'glued' together when you see them.
Each segment is charged one credit, so for up to 160 characters the charge is one credit, like before. For each additional segment - one extra credit will be charged.
For example - a messages 180 characters long will be charged two credits in total.

February, 2016 : Server upgrade

Time for upgrade!
Most of our web-facing servers have been replaced by new HP Proliant DL machines.
Whole process has been totally transparent to our users, no downtime occured.

September 1st, 2014 : New JSON API for SMS Gateway has been released

From now on, it's easy to send SMS messages using JSON (in/out).
Life is much easier for node.js Javascript developers - node examples included.

May 5th, 2014 : Auto recharge option for SMS Matrix credits

As long as user has a credit card configured with SMS Matrix (Settings option), the account can be automatically re-charged if credit balance goes below certain amount. This option was one of the most often requested features, and finally we were able to deliver.

April 11th, 2014 : Credit Card option for monthly plans

Until now, the only way to enroll in SMS Matrix monthly plan was to pay via Paypal.
Now, you can sign up using your credit card, that is NOT processed by Paypal, but directly via your bank's merchant account.
Paypal option is still available, at least for the time being.

March 21st, 2014 : Credit Card option added

Until now, the only way to purchase SMS Matrix credits was to pay via Paypal.
Now, you can purchase extra credits using your credit card, that is NOT processed by Paypal, but directly by your bank's merchant account.
Paypal option is of course still available.
Next step - to be available within few weeks - will be to enable SMS Matrix Bronze, Silver and Gold subscriptions to be also available with either Paypal, or Credit Card payments.

January 18th, 2014 : UTF-8 support added to our UI

UTF-8 support has been added to our front and back end.
Data handled by our system and UI, such as SMS/TTS content, recipient names, group names, message templates, CSV exports, etc.. works now with any language, including Asian languages. As long as your browser supports UTF-8 encoding, you store your data in your own language.

January 3rd, 2014 : SSML support added to TTS messages

SSML support has been added to our TTS engine.

SSML is part of a larger set of markup specifications for voice browsers developed through the open processes of the W3C. It is designed to provide a rich, XML-based markup language for assisting the generation of synthetic speech in Web and other applications. The essential role of the markup language is to give authors of synthesizable content a standard way to control aspects of speech output such as pronunciation, volume, pitch, rate, etc..

December 20th, 2013 : More languages available to TTS messages

Our list of available Text-to-Speech (TTS) languages has been extended with the following languages:
Mandarin, Japense, Romanina, Polish, Norwegian, Swedish, Portuguese, Greek, Finnish, Arabic and Turkish.
More languages to be added shortly. Quality of all TTS languages has improved dramtically - check it out.

Plans for the 1st quarter of 2014 include releasing new version of SMS/TTS/Voice Gateway API that will allow using JSON input/output.

November 10th, 2013 : New, HTML5 compliant UI has been released

Our existing, Flash-based UI will be retired soon, and new, HTML5 based UI will take over.
All new user accounts created after November 10th will by default use the new GUI, and by the end of the year, all other users will be switched as well. The old UI will stay around for a while - to be available via this URL: https://www.smsmatrix.com/start2.html
It will be permanently retired within few months.

UPDATE (March 2014): Old UI has been retired, and it's no longer available.

December 1st, 2011 : Virtual Phone numbers available in Canada

Beside continental US virtual phone numbers, starting December 2011, we also offer virtual phone numbers in Canada.
These numbers are able to serve as caller ID for outgoing voice and text messages, and also as incoming number for sms/text messages. Incoming voice calls can be forwarded to your 'real' phone number.

August 27th, 2011 : Big hardware Upgrade

Gradually, from August 1st to 27th, ALL of our servers have been upgraded/replaced with new IBM XSeries machines. All hardware is running faster and cooler than before, providing much higher throughput.
All real-time data is served from enterprise class Intel SSD drives. Also, our primary IP addresses have been changed; whole move was done gradually, without even 1 minute downtime.

February 11th, 2011 : New data center in NY

The company further diversified geographical location of its data centers. As for February 2011, SMSMatrix system is being served from three different locations: Vancouver, Toronto and New York. Our New York location will help to handle increasing traffic for our East Coast customers. Our servers run from 1st class hosting facility in the Wall Street area in Manhattan, and they provide much higher bandwidth and processing power than the other two data centers in Vancouver/Toronto.

September 21st, 2010 : French language support added to Text-to-Speech

On top of English and Spanish languages available for the TTS message delivery, French language has been added.
Support for French is available for the TTS Gateway/API, and for the GUI.

June 21st, 2010 : Windows Messaging Application Has Been Released

Our Windows Messaging App allows mobile users easily send SMS and Text-to-Speech messages.
Instead of sending messages through our website, users can now install simple Windows executable, and use our application directly. Standalone Windows application requires Adobe Flash player, and Internet access, offers all the same functionality and features that are offered via our website.
We are planning to release similar applications for Linux and Mac operating systems.

May 28th, 2010 : Android SMS/TTS Messaging App Has Been Released

Our Text2Voice Android App and Text2Voice4Business Android App allows mobile users easily send SMS and Text-to-Speech messages.
Send Text-to-Speech or SMS messages: enter or select the recipient from the phone's address book, type your message and click Send.
TTS delivery works with every phone: mobile or land line.
This app does not affect phone's voice or SMS plan's quota from the mobile carrier.

Application is available for download for free, and it comes with three credits included.
Additional credits can purchased directly from the App, or from our Android Text2Voice page.

Similar IPhone App will be released in the third quarter of 2010.

Latest update (10pm PST 28th May 2010): within first hour of releasing the App, in the middle of the night, it has been downloaded by over 200 Android users.

March 15th, 2010 : 2-Way Support for for SMS, Voice and TTS Messaging

Starting from March 10th, 2010, SMS Matrix is able to handle 2-way messaging using SMS, Voice and Text-to-Speech worldwide, to any country in the world, at very competitive prices.

Users can take advantage of Matrix' Virtual Mobile Phone Numbers, and receive incoming SMS messages (e.g. replies, opt-ins, opt-outs) at their dedicated phone number.
As for Voice or Text-to-Speech messages, it is possible to send voice or TTS message, that would ask the recipient to make a choice by pressing a number on the dial.

For instance a car serviceman wants to ask if his customers are happy:
'Hello, this is Citroen Service in Smallville. You visited us last week. We would like to know if you were happy with the service we have provided. Press 1 if you were happy, or press 2 if you were not. Press 9 to repeat this message.'
The recipient would listen to the message, and then press 1, or 2. The number pressed will later show up in the message status, so it will be easy for the sender to see and handle recipient's response.

January 11th, 2010 : Worldwide coverage for SMS, Voice and TTS

As of January 11th, 2010, SMS Matrix Messaging Platform is able to deliver SMS, Voice and Text to Speech messages to virtually any country in the world, while still maintaining competitive pricing. After several months of expanding coverage, finally we have the whole world covered!

Our recent upgrade also allows us to handle much bigger load, which should speed up message delivery.

January 6th, 2010 : New Pricing for North American Voice Messages

Starting from January 6th, 2010, due to new, faster and more efficient infrastructure for voice message delivery, SMS Matrix was able to slash pricing for Voice messages by 40%.
One voice message delivered to USA or Canada will start at three cents.

Voice and Text to Speech message delivery remains SMS Matrix strongest offering. Being generally more reliable than SMS delivery, and almost as fast, it best suited for emergency alerts and notifications.

Text to Speech (TTS) option included in every monthly plan, helps to convert text message to high quality voice, and deliver it to land line or cell phones. This option is very useful for all kinds of alerts, when user wants to push out messages quickly and without thinking what kind of receiver(s) (sms capable cell phone or voice-only capable phone) are being dealt with. The whole process is totally transparent to the user. TTS feature is available via web based GUI, and also when sending messages via Matrix SMS Gateway.

TTS option will soon allow users to define custom actions for recipient's responses (e.g. press '1' to confirm, press '2' to cancel, or press '3' to talk to customer support). This new TTS features will be available in March 2010.

Starting from November 2009, Text to Speech (TTS) option included in every monthly plan, helps to convert text message to high quality voice, and deliver it to land line or cell phones, worldwide.

This option is very useful for all kinds of alerts, when user wants to push out messages quickly and without thinking what kind of receiver(s) (sms capable cell phone or voice-only capable phone) are being dealt with. The whole process is totally transparent to the user.
TTS feature is available via web based GUI, and also when sending messages via Matrix SMS Gateway.

October 29th, 2009 : New Pricing for SMS Delivery in Canada

Minek Systems, located in Vancouver, BC, announced a new pricing for their SMS Matrix™ Text/SMS Broadcasting platform.
The use of SMS messaging as a communication and marketing tool is growing as companies reconsider their marketing spending.
SMS Matrix also make personalized messaging easier to use and more attractive than before. North American mobile messaging continues to grow despite the current downturn in the economy. Minek Systems, specializing in mobile marketing web based services, has witnessed continued growth in mobile marketing spending since the launch of its SMS gateway platform - SMS Matrix.

August 17th, 2009 : Multilingual support for SMS delivery (UTF-8)

Starting from August 17th, 2009, SMS Matrix platform now makes it even more versatile in being capable of delivering SMS messages in unicode (utf-8) format, which will allow usage of non-ASCII characters in SMS delivery.

This will allow SMS message delivery in recipient's native language. Virtually all languages are supported, including Chinese, Vietnamese, Arabic, Russian, etc... making SMS Matrix platform truly language neutral.
Non-ASCII character delivery has to be supported by the wireless carrier and recipient's cell phone.
This new feature is available for messages sent via web based GUI and also with SMS Gateway API.

July 26th, 2009 : New Features for SMS Matrix Messaging Platform

The upgrade of the SMS Matrix platform now makes it even more versatile in being capable of delivering thousands of text or voice messages in just few clicks.

Among the main new features are:
